Mother-of-pearl jewelry and ornaments tend to turn yellow over time.
Salt is the best way to solve this problem and get it back to its original color.
If you want to clean them yourself, soak them in a basin of water with lots of coarse salt and let them soak for a few minutes.
If any of the objects has traces of dirt and does not go away, remove it by lightly rubbing it with a sponge.
- Try not to put your blouses or clothes in the washing machine with mother-of-pearl buttons.
- Preferably hand wash them or remove them first if you prefer and there aren’t many.
- Soap can irreparably deteriorate mother-of-pearl.
